Displax - Interactive Displays

You have seen the demo of Microsoft Surface and are pleasantly surprised? There are many companies and products that are innovative. Edigma, Portugal, founded in 2000 has some innovative products. They supply transparent interactive displays that work as windows and the supply interactive floors! Can not believe? Read on!

Edigma started a R&D project with CCG/ZGDV and Minho University, dealing with Interactive technologies and the result is an innovative Displax® - Interactive window. This was way back in 2004.

The heart of the Displax is a 98% transparent screen which is touch sensitive. This comes in two form factors - Foil and inGlass. Displax® Interactive Holo Foil is a flexible interactive and holographic technology foil with a self-adhesive surface. Hence this can be easily mounted onto a glass or acrylic. Second type is Displax® Interactive Holo inGlass, which is a glass with embedded holographic and interactive technologies.

Displax® Interactive Holo Foil can be stuck to any window with transparent glass or acrylic using the self adhesive surface, while Displax® Interactive Holo inGlass can used as the window glass itself! Displax Interactive Holo can be supplied from 21 inches to 100 inches. Most popular sizes seem to be 40, 50, 60 and 67 inches.

The advantage of this product is that you can customize your content and put it on your windows. The content can be your web site, a flash file, a video or simply images. The technology offer great experience as one you can get the touch synchronized with sound.

You will be floored with their other innovative floorduct, I mean product. It is an interactive floor! You can display some thing on the floor. When some one steps on that, a new message or graphic is displayed! This can be used very effectively for advertising purposes. One can schedule different messages/images depending on parameters like time etc. Imagine walking on different part of floor giving you different messages and/or sound.

This Displax may not be a threat to Microsoft Surface. But the creativity has already grabbed the attention of users. This is already implemented and the company is shipping the customized Displax to their customers. As these Displax will be useful for all commercial establishments, the people bound to leverage these interactive technologies. Multi touch technology is not indicated in Displax. But, once they get interested in this technology, and can integrate interactive windows and floors, they will have a winner!
